What Is the International Writing Workshop?

Funded by the British Academy (UK’s national body for the humanities and social sciences), this program supports early-career academics in the Global South by partnering them with experienced UK researchers. The workshops are designed to:

  • Improve writing for international publication

  • Facilitate peer learning and collaborative research

  • Strengthen long-term academic partnerships

  • Build capacity in research institutions and universities

Each workshop includes hands-on guidance, mentorship, and practical strategies to turn your research into publishable academic writing.

Who Should Apply?

This is an ideal opportunity if you are:

  • An early-career researcher (within 10 years of your PhD or equivalent experience)

  • Based in Global South countries (as defined by OECD DAC list)

  • Working in any area of the humanities or social sciences

  • Interested in publishing in English-language academic journals

  • Looking to expand your professional and academic network

Whether you’re in anthropology, history, economics, literature, law, or beyond, this workshop helps bridge the gap between promising research and global publication success.

Why This Program Matters

The program isn’t just about writing, it’s about creating long-lasting academic partnerships. UK-based researchers and institutions co-design each workshop with host institutions in eligible countries, ensuring the content is culturally relevant, locally impactful, and globally connected.

Key benefits:

  • Intensive writing support

  • Increased chance of publication

  • Peer and mentor feedback

  • Interdisciplinary exchange

  • Potential for future collaboration and research funding

How to Apply

Applications must be led by a UK-based researcher, who partners with an institution in an eligible country. If you’re interested but don’t have a UK collaborator yet, consider reaching out to your academic network or university research office to explore possible partnerships.
